Batuque by SAKO Toshio - Volume 6 manga cover

Today, I would have liked to talk about a manga but I am not sure I would be able to.

I am just seeing that :

And I am staying there listening to BBC News anchor talking about US Economy. US interest rate/Decision, trying to focus on anything but this scene in the early manga pages where a little baby gril is by herself in the night, its nappy overflowing with shit, starving. And I am asking to myself pointless questions like what the point of life if there are no one for a little baby ? What the point to let a little baby by himself ? I could relate it to my own story, we are related by the same moon, related by the same adults who will let a baby by himself then take him responsible for being dirty. I do not want to describe the dark mood this put me in, I am just like, when you read the Baka-Updates summary, how could you imagine something like that ?

« The story of a middle school girl trying to find herself in the confusion of adolescence. Skateboard-loving Ichiri Sanjou, nicknamed "Icchi," may look like a normal energetic kid, but whenever she sees the full moon, she is hit with a wave of emotion she cannot comprehend. The series revolves around her learning the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. »

The First Chapter

How a summary could be that vague ? It is like they had avoided the main thing on purpose to let me doing it for them.
Then, I have kept on reading the first chapter of this manga where characters seem to have stepped straight out of an articulated puppet theatre. Their heads are so big, they all look like octopus with only two arms and two legs. But I want to understand this name « Batuque » and what does this word means to Sako Tashio to name his manga like that.

Never let a baby on his own - Batuque - SAKO Toshio

The baby is now a young girl who go to school on a skateboard but her shitty dad broke the hell out the skateboard because she ask him if she could take Karate lessons from her very best friend old brother. The dad lost his mind when he heart the word « free » before « lessons », like we are so poor that my daughter would take free lessons. After arriving to her best friend’s older brother store to apologize because she had to decline her proposition, she witness a robbery attempt where she try to interpose. But when the burglar knife was about about to reach her throat, that weird homeless man seen in a park appear to save her day. A Rasta whose fluid movements planted the seeds of a new passion in his mind.

We won’t tell more about this manga from the mangaka who brought us « Usogui », a combat seinen with a decadent atmosphere that we'll be talking you soon. Just read this manga to know how a good manga should be written.
